Heidi Louise Pottery is made by hand in Vermont. The pieces are wheel-thrown with rustic, speckled brown stoneware clay bodies that are strong and durable, intended for everyday use.

As a potter I am interested in contemplative touch, the language of form, the abstract alchemy of glazes, and the learning-to-let-go in firing. I’m inspired by my upbringing in the woods of vermont - the effortless beauty in nature, unfussy yet complex. I appreciate the intersection of utility + art in pottery, to be interacted with, held and used, and the way handmade objects have the subtle power to speak to us unlike machine-made things.

While studying for my BA in Environmental Studies at University of North Carolina Wilmington, I took ceramics classes on the side. I was instantly hooked by the tactile focus it required, pouring your thoughts and energy into something so deceivingly 'simple' as a bowl or cup. I took every class they offered, some twice.

After graduating I returned to my home state, working at River Arts Community Art Center for 5 years launching and managing a thriving community clay studio. In 2021 I was awarded a Vermont Arts Council artist development grant to attend a formative workshop on utilizing local materials by Mitch Iburg & Zoe Powell of Studio Alluvium at Mendocino Art Center in California. I now work full-time in my small home studio making functional wares and enjoy harvesting wild local clay and experimenting with local materials to integrate into my work.
